Arts and Culture of Poncokusumo Village

Poncokusumo is one of the villages that has many arts and traditions. Regarding arts and traditions, in this day and age many people do not know what arts and traditions are around their neighborhood. Many arts and traditions that are not preserved make opportunities for other regions to claim them as their own. So, let’s preserve the arts and traditions in our neighborhoods together!

Arts in Poncokusumo Village

    1. Kuda Lumping
      Kuda Lumping is a traditional Javanese dance, this dance uses a property of woven bamboo that resembles a horse. Kuda lumping, or as the people of Poncokusumo call it, jaran kepang, is not only found here but throughout Java. The preservation of this lumping horse is very well maintained because of the many enthusiasts from the community itself.

    1. Bantengan
      Bantengan is a traditional dance from East Java, this dance follows the movements of a bull using a bull costume and is performed by two people in each bull costume. Similar to kuda lumping, bantengan is still very much preserved in Poncokusumo Village due to the large number of enthusiasts from the community.

Culture in Poncokusumo Village

    1. Selametan Desa

      Selamatan Desa is a traditional ceremony to show the gratitude of the community. Usually by giving food as a form of gratitude to be eaten together with the village community. The food is not only from one person, but from many people who are then gathered into one and eaten together. The form of gratitude is not only in the form of food but there are also offerings to the village danyang.

    1. Sepasar Bayi

      Sepasar Bayi is a welcoming tradition for newborn babies. Generally, this tradition is held five days after the baby is born by inviting neighbors to pray together. The tradition has obligatory dishes in the form of tumpeng rice, market snacks, and jenang abang putih, which are not just dishes but these dishes have their own symbols and meanings.

    1. Soyo/Sayan

      Soyo/Sayan is a tradition of mutual cooperation in building a house. They do it because it is based on the principle of mutual help. In helping to build the house of one of the residents, they never expect a penny in return or wages.
